“Under Pressure” vs. “Ice Ice Baby”

Even the greatest creators face copyright infringement.

We all know song “Under Pressure” (1981) by Queen and David Bowie. But did you know that Vanilla Ice had a hit in 1989 called “Ice Ice Baby”, in which you can clearly hear a familiar bass line. So, when the song starts it’s even hard to determine which song it is.

At first Vanilla Ice denied it and later said it was a joke. The case was settled privately out of court with Ice paying an undeclared sum of money.  “Ice Ice Baby” sparked a debate about punitive actions taken in cases of plagiarism. Moreover, Ice’s weak defense makes this one of the most hilarious copyright cases of all time.
