Stephen King sells the rights to use his stories in a film for just one dollar

Every year a well-known horror writer Stephen King lunches his “Dollar Baby” project. He offers filmmaking students, who want to try their talent, an opportunity to make a film using one of his stories for just $1. He selects 5-10 students world wild every year.

Stephen King retains all the rights to the resulting films and forbids any commercial use of them.  Those films cannot be shown on TV or uploaded to the Internet. Soon those films, and their directors, were given a nickname – “dollar-baby”.

One of them was Frank Darabont, who at the age of 20 shot a short film based on the story “Woman in the House”. King liked his work, and subsequently Darabont became the director of such films as “Shawshank Redemption”, “The Green Mile” and “The Darkness”.

If you are a student who is interested in cinematography, you can look deeper into this on his website, choose one of the available stories and apply for this project.
