How your photos can be worth millions of dollars
Every photographer finds out his work being stolen once a year. Usually he finds his photo on websites, magazines, ads, banners. He may not be searching for them on purpose, but stumbles upon them occasionally. Most of photographers are used to the fact that photos are usually stolen by someone and do nothing about it.But this is not good. This only encourages plagiarists to steal someone else`s work.
It happens not only with photographers – every social network user faces the same! Instagram, Facebook and in other places where people post their photos, often run into the same problem.
US Postal Service payed $3,5 million for the stamp design, which broke copyright rules. It found a picture of Statue of Liberty in Internet. But it turns out that it was a replica of original Statue in Las Vegas. Federal court has ruled that the post office must pay the replica’s sculptor for violating his copyright.
Due to the huge amount of photos in the world, thieves think that their actions will have no consequences and willgo unpunished.
