Acquirer
A person who buys rights to works of other authors.

Alienation
The voluntary transfer of property or ownership from one person to another.

Author
A person who created or gave existence to a kind of work.

Blockchain
A system acting as a digital ledger, consisting of blocks. Each block contains a cryptographic hash of the previous block, a timestamp, and a certain amount of transaction data. Once the data has been recorded in a block, it cannot be altered without changing every block that comes after it. It creates a reliable storage of information, one that cannot be disputed or declared to be untrue.

Copyright
This refers to the legal rights of the owner of intellectual property. Copyright is intended to protect the original expression of an idea in the form of a creative, intellectual or artistic piece of work. Only the individual, who owns the whole complex of copyrights, can use and replicate the work.

To deposit
To entrust an institution with the safekeeping of a document, typically stored in electronic form on the global information network where access is free.

Ethereum
An open source, public, blockchain-based distributed computing platform and operating system featuring smart contract functionality. This system went live on the 30th July 2015.

Hash
A function that converts one value to another. It is used in cryptography, checksum generation and data indexing. A good cryptographic hash function is non-invertible, meaning it cannot be reverse engineered.

Intellectual activity
The meaningful functioning of the mind. The results of intellectual activity are manifested in an intangible product.

Intellectual property (IP)
This is a category of property that includes intangible creations of the human intellect. It is officially owned by someone and can be protected from being copied.

IP market
A platform where people can buy and sell protected intellectual property containing new knowledge.

License
An official permission to make, produce, or use something that you have created or that belongs to you.

Marketplace
An e-commerce website where many third parties provide information on goods and services. Transactions are processed by the marketplace operator.

Monetization
This is the process of deriving revenue from the value you offer to others.

Rightholder
An individual or corporate entity holding a copyright.

Self-service platform
A platform that helps users resolve service needs and find related information on their own, without contacting support.

Timestamp
This is encoded information identifying when a certain event occurred, usually giving a date and the time of day, sometimes accurate to a small fraction of a second. It allows users to assign a precise date and time to an electronic document.
